On Thursday morning, Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chose to boycott a scheduled parliamentary session in order to accompany and show solidarity with two members of their caucus who were attending criminal trial proceedings.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, and James Gyakye Quayson, representing Assin North, had court hearings on Thursday morning for separate cases.
Dr. Ato Forson is facing charges related to the alleged causing of financial loss amounting to €2.37 million to the state in connection with the purchase of 200 ambulances between 2014 and 2016.
James Gyakye Quayson, on the other hand, is facing charges of forgery and perjury.
In a statement issued by the Minority Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza, it was emphasized that the decision to boycott the parliamentary proceedings was driven by their unwavering support for their colleagues and the importance of unity within their ranks.
“The Minority stands united with our colleagues, and as such, we will not be able to fulfil the business of the house today,” stated the Minority Chief Whip.
The boycott by the Minority MPs serves as a demonstration of their solidarity with Dr Ato Forson and James Gyakye Quayson, highlighting their commitment to standing together in the face of the legal challenges faced by their fellow caucus members.
