The Police Administration has initiated a widespread manhunt for four suspected robbers believed to be responsible for the brutal killing of a policeman in broad daylight at Ablekuma in the Ga West Municipality, Greater Accra Region.
The tragic incident occurred yesterday when the alleged robbers attacked the policeman, identified as Lance Corporal Calystus Amoah, during a suspected robbery attempt on occupants of a vehicle at a fuel service station in Ablekuma. Lance Corporal Amoah was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, the robbers had been tailing a bullion van that had stopped at the fuel station to refill. It was during this encounter that the officer, who was seated in the front passenger seat providing security, was shot at close range.
News of the incident quickly spread, drawing attention from residents, drivers, and traders in the community, as the perpetrators fled the scene.
In response to the shocking event, the police have issued a statement, urging the robbers to surrender themselves. The statement emphasized that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the gang of four responsible for the attack on the bullion van and the subsequent killing of the police escort. The police expressed condolences to the family of the deceased officer and assured the public that they would spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Lance Corporal Calystus Amoah was a dedicated officer stationed at the National Protection Unit (NPU) headquarters of the Ghana Police Service. He graduated from the Pwalugu Police Training School in 2017. Tragically, he leaves behind a wife and a baby.
The community and the entire Police Service mourn the loss of Lance Corporal Amoah, and his colleagues remain determined to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
