Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized the sacrifices he has made for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as he seeks to lead the party in the upcoming 2024 elections.
During a campaign event in the Suame constituency of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia expressed his unwavering dedication to the party, particularly recalling his role in the 2012 general election petition.
He highlighted that when the party needed a witness for the election petition at the Supreme Court, he willingly stepped forward despite the potential consequences for his political career. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that while others made excuses, he made the sacrifice fully aware of the implications if he failed to deliver in court.
Specifically, he mentioned that some party members were reluctant to participate due to concerns about their political futures or travel plans. However, Dr. Bawumia remained steadfast in his commitment and believes that his actions demonstrate his suitability as a candidate to lead the party.
Dr. Bawumia is currently one of ten candidates who successfully passed the vetting process for the NPP leadership position. The other candidates include former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former Minister of Food and Agric Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, former General Secretary of NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Offinso North Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, Kojo Opoku, and former Member of Parliament for Mampong constituency Francis Addai-Nimoh.
As the race for the NPP leadership intensifies, Vice President Bawumia seeks to showcase his dedication and commitment to the party as he vies for the opportunity to lead in the upcoming elections.
