WhatsApp, the widely used instant messaging app, is set to introduce a new feature that will allow users to send short video messages to their contacts, similar to Snapchat. Currently in testing with beta users, the video messaging feature is expected to roll out to all users in the coming weeks.
According to reports from WABetainfo, WhatsApp developers are currently testing the feature on the beta version of the app. To send a video message, users will need to tap on the microphone button located on the right side of the text input box. In the beta version, the microphone button will transform into a video button, enabling users to record a video message with a maximum duration of 60 seconds.
This new functionality will be convenient for users who want to share content with their friends without leaving the app or having to record videos using their device’s camera app. Similar to text and audio messages, the upcoming video messages will be end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and security for users. It’s worth noting that, at present, forwarding video messages to other users is not possible. However, users can save these video messages using screen recording applications, as WhatsApp does not treat them as disappearing messages.
WhatsApp’s addition of video messages will enhance the app’s communication capabilities, providing users with a more dynamic and engaging way to interact with their contacts. With its commitment to privacy and security, WhatsApp aims to deliver a seamless and secure messaging experience to its vast user base.
